Bayelsa Election: Oshiomhole warns governorship aspirants against cloning PVCs
Ahead of Tuesday’s governorship primary of the All Progressives
Congress in Bayelsa State, the chairman of the party’s electoral
committee, Adams Oshiomhole, has warned the aspirants against cloning
Permanent Voter Cards.
Mr. Oshiomhole, who is also the governor of Edo State, gave the warning in Yenagoa, the state capital, during a meeting with the 19 governorship aspirants on the party’s platform on Monday.
Other members of the party also attended the meeting.
Among the main contenders for the party’s ticket are a former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva and a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Timi Alaibe.
The governor, who is leading the nine-member committee, said anybody found to be cloning the cards would be apprehended by the security agencies.
Mr. Oshiomhole explained that open ballot system of voting would be adopted at the primary to be held at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex.
“The party will deploy the use of card readers to authenticate the PVCs presented by delegates,” he said.
“If anyone is involved in cloning, we will ensure they are arrested. Cloning of cards is a criminal offence. The sponsors of such act and those caught with the cloned cards would be arrested.”
The governor also said the rules to be used at the primary election were also used for that of Kogi State held late last month.
