Hijra: NGO Tasks Muslims On Nation’s Building, Good Governance
The Abuja Muslim Forum (AMF), an NGO, on Saturday in Abuja
urged the Muslims to contribute more to the development of the nation
and good governance.
The Amirul of the Organisation, Malam Luqman Amoo, gave the advice in his address of welcome at the Annual Hijra Anniversary Lecture, with the theme, “The relevance of Hijra to nation’s building and good governance.’’
“ It is a day of sincere reflections, especially as we had just entered into Islamic New Year.
“ It is a period that is expected of all Muslim Ummah to be more dedicated to the worship of Almighty Allah,’’ he said.
Amoo also enjoined all the Muslims to love their neighbours as they love themselves for a peaceful co-existence.
He urged Muslims not to engage in activities capable of causing tension in any part of the country as they entered the new Islamic year.
“ We should see ourselves as one people fighting for same cause in this country, irrespective of our religion affiliations.
“ We should realise that whatever religion you find ourselves, we are all worshiping the same God,’’ Amoo said.
He advised Muslims in the country to see it as a must to give the necessary support to the present administration to achieve its objectives.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar 111, represented by the Emir or Sarkin Zazzau, Suleja, Malam Awwal Ibrahim expressed delight for the invitation extended to him.
Abubakar also commended the organisation for their efforts towards uplifting the religion of Islam and humanity in general.
“ You people are doing a good job to both the religion of Islam and humanity in general and I want you people to keep it up.
“I also want to use this opportunity to call on other Islamic organisations to follow suit,’’ he said.
He called on the Muslims to support the present administration, especially now that the country was in dear need of change.
The Sultan called for attitudinal change as the Muslims celebrate New Year for a better society.
He also urged Nigerians to always willingly supply useful information to security agents in their quest to tackle insurgency headlong.
The monarch advised Nigerians to join hands with the Federal Government’s anti-corruption crusade for a better Nigeria.
Also, the resource person, Prof. Adam Okene, Dean, Postgraduate School, Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), urged Muslims to use this period of Hijra as a sober reflection and go closer to their creators.
“ The act of governance involves everybody, and should not be left in the hands of the government alone.
“ We should all come together to move the entity called Nigeria forward,’’ he said. (NAN)
