Hajj Stampede: Jigawa Govt Confirms 4 Deaths, 2 Missing
Jigawa State government yesterday confirmed that four of its pilgrims
died in this year’s hajj exercise while two others are missing.The
head of the state’s 2015 Hajj Delegation and deputy governor, Mr.
Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia while briefing newsmen in his office explained
that,
two of the pilgrims died as a result of the stampede at Minna while two others died as a result of other illness. “ For those two missing we presume that they died as a result of the stampede and their relatives would be taken to Saudi Arabia for DNA test.”
Hadejia noted that the state government spent N282 million in supporting this year’s hajj operation. “This amount indicated that, the state has saved over N600 million compared to N890 million spent last year by the immediate past state government.”
“ I can vividly say, we recorded a successful hajj operation, and measures taken to reduce government spending has yielded fruitful result while the quality of services given improve by the free hands given to State Pilgrims Board to manage the exercise.”
