Congregants of Mount Zion General Assembly went home depressed on Sunday after a failed demonstration of power by the church pastor, Lethebo Rabalango, when a girl fainted after he put a big speaker on top of her, promising her that she would not feel pain.

Rabalango had organised a night of worship at his church in Polokwane, where he was teaching about demonstration of power in which he emphasised that if Jesus walked on water, he too could do anything with faith. To prove it, he invited a girl and asked her to lie down.

He then ordered Ushers to put a big speaker on her stomach, saying the weight would not harm her. He climbed on top of the speaker and after 5 minutes, he got up and ordered its removal, but the girl could not rise because she had fainted.

It took some elders giving her first aid before she could come around, but she complained of a broken rib. The she was then taken to the hospital. However, the pastor blamed and accused her of having little faith.

After serving at the Redeemed Christian Church of God for 23 years, Bayo Akinjiyan, 55, has decried what he described as “man’s inhumanity to man and the travesty of justice” by the church he served “meritoriously.”

Akinjiyan, who voluntarily resigned from the church in 2013 after rising to the position of an assistant provincial pastor at Lagos Province 25, said he could not fathom why an organisation he was once a part of for 23 years would treat him with “human indignity” and refuse to pay him what is due to him.

Upon his exit from the church, Akinjiyan said he had to vacate a N15m house he personally built on Plot 15, Diligence Road, Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which is in line with the policy of the church that a non-member has no rights to own any building at the camp.

However, after handing over the property, its receipt has yet to be acknowledged by the authorities of the church; a position Akinjiyan said had made him uncomfortable.

His other grievance is over unpaid consultancy fees amounting to over N2m on projects designed, supervised and or managed by him since 2012.

Akinjiyan said he had exploited all available media to express his grievances to the church, including through the writing of private letters to the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, but after waiting for over two years and his grievances had yet to be addressed, he had resorted to writing an open letter to the leader of the church.

His letter read, “First, I want to address the attitude and response of the authorities and leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God over the house on Plot 15, Diligence Road, Redemption Camp Estate, Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that I handed over to them upon my voluntary exit from the church after 23 years of meritorious service and having risen to the position of assistant provincial pastor.

“This was contained in my letter of resignation, dated November 3, 2013. That I gave my best in this adventure was alluded to by the church in the letter of release, dated March 11, 2014, which states inter alia, ‘…We wish to appreciate you for your contributions to this ministry and we pray that God will reward and support you in your future endeavours…’

“Secondly, the attitude and response of the Board of Governors of Christ the Redeemers College, Sagamu, Ogun State Nigeria — a private secondary school operated by Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries, an affiliate of RCCG, over an unpaid consultancy fees on projects designed, supervised and or managed by me since 2012.

“I know the implications of my actions and having fully weighed my options, I hereby accept full responsibilities for my actions. My decision to inform the Christian community and the larger society is not aimed at destroying or tarnishing the image of anyone or maligning the church that once gave me fire, but rather, it is aimed at putting records straight, and satisfying my God and my conscience. I have prayed over this matter, consulted those that I needed to, and I’ve come to the conclusion that God is on the side of those who have a right standing with Him.

“Let us address the first issue — the house at Redemption Camp. In line with the policy of the RCCG mission on those who build on its land, the keys to the house on the above mentioned location, which is a five-bedroom house (all en-suite), valued by a firm of chartered estate surveyors at N15.5m as of December 5, 2011, were submitted to the church through my letter to the General Overseer, dated March 4, 2014 upon my voluntary exit.

“Reminders were also sent through four other letters dated September 2, 2015, January 2, 2016, March 10, 2016, and June 27, 2016.  Of all these letters and reminders, the only response I had was a letter dated October 9, 2015, acknowledging the letter of September 2, stating as follows, ‘…We wish to inform you that the issues raised in your letter have been referred to concerned officials for their comments and response. We shall g

A soldier guarding the Olympic Games was killed and at least two of his comrades wounded when their car was sprayed with bullets after mistakenly entering a drug lord-controlled slum. The soldier, from the elite Forca Nacional (National Force) was shot in the head as he drove a marked pickup truck into one of the city’s most dangerous shantytowns by mistake

He was taken to hospital but local reports said he died of his wounds. Brazilian police and military had yet to confirm his death on Wednesday evening.

Concerned that Africa, particularly Nigeria, is still vulnerable to emerging epidemics such as the Ebola Virus Disease, Lassa fever, Zika virus and others, a public health expert based in the United States, Dr. Babajide Sadiq, has warned that government at all levels must introduce adequate steps to prevent a re-occurrence.

Sadiq, who is currently the Health Equity Epidemiologist for the State of Texas, said he had developed a strategy called the Evidence-Based Model that would assist the country in checking disease outbreaks.

He said, “The Evidence Based Model in public health is what they use in developed countries. It involves employing the disease surveillance system in Nigeria, data collection and the healthcare management system. Following the absence of a proper health data system in Nigeria, my team and I want to design a good one.

“If we have the model in place, we would have adequate information on certain diseases, epidemics and the region or persons who are most vulnerable to contracting it. Our plan is to run the programme for two to three years in Nigeria.”

Working in partnership with the Bill Gates Foundation and similar non-governmental organisations, Sadiq, who is also the co-founder of Genii ‘Geniuses’ Associates, a global health consulting outfit, said the research would start in communities and rural areas of the country.

Sadiq said Nigeria was chosen to execute the project due to its laudable efforts in checking the EVD. He called on Nigerian scientists in the Diaspora to contribute their quota to the health sector.

“I have worked for the Centre for Disease Control and I have managed over 10 million data sets in Florida. But if everybody keeps saying they don’t want to come back home, who is going to fix the problem?

“The reports from the World Health Organisation about developing countries are not favourable. There are always cases of cholera, malaria, diarrhoea and so on. I have my family members who live in Nigeria and if somebody calls me to say that someone is knocked down by any of these diseases, it would affect me psychologically. I’m working with some experts with over 35 years’ experience.”

The scientist said the organisation was set to convene a health summit in December, which will focus on the management and prevention of disease outbreaks.

“This conference will enable experts from different countries to exchange ideas on how to detect epidemic, how to develop our capacity for rapid diagnosis and how we can develop our capacity for rapid case detection.

“Other aims include contact tracing, disease surveillance, biosecurity and biosafety, detecting biological trace, vaccine strategy and preventive measures,” Sadiq added.

In a statement signed by Cynthia Whyte, the spokesperson for the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA), and made exclusively available to DailyPost, the splinter group of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), has insisted that former President Goodluck Jonathan is the grand patron of the militant group, and threatened to reveal more sordid details about his connection with the Avengers.

The group who detailed how NDA was formed with the sole objective of taking over from the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and countering their activities, said it understands why Goodluck Jonathan publicly denied the NDA.

Read the full statement below;

”To cut a long story short, NDA was formed to counter MEND but failed. The statement, however, said that the RNDA is not surprised that the alleged grand patron of the NDA, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has distanced himself from the NDA.

”It therefore did not come to the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) as a surprise that the Grand Patron of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has distanced himself from the NDA.

”Like every sponsor, sympathizer and operative earlier mentioned who has equally denied links with the Avengers, we can understand the wisdom behind their decision; as their participation was always meant to be covert.

”After a clandestine meeting in Otuoke, Bayelsa state in 2014 between the Grand Patron and several unidentified persons ahead of the Presidential election campaign of 2015, it was agreed that the Okah brothers should be contacted to reach out to the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) to endorse former President Goodluck Jonathan, and work with the group of persons to ensure victory for the PDP and President Jonathan.

”At the time, because MEND was the suggested tool, the NDA as a body was not yet formed. Mr Kingsley Kuku and Mr. Gordon Obuah, SA on Niger Delta and Chief Security Officer to President Jonathan, respectively were selected to visit Charles Okah in Kuje prison. Mr Daniel Alabrah was given the assignment to draft an endorsement statement for Charles Okah to go through and pass on to MEND.

”The duo reported back that they had visited Okah in Kuje prison at night with the promise of his release along with others should he cooperate to get MEND to endorse Jonathan.

”It therefore came as a shock when MEND did the opposite and endorsed Buhari. Mr. Jonathan was livid with anger and swore that the Okah’s would rot in prison.

”It was also agreed that a show of force be put up in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state where ex-militants led by Government Ekpemupolo and Kingsley Kuku would threaten war should the electorate vote in Buhari’s favour.

”It was around that period the idea of forming the Niger Delta Avengers was conceived. In fact the name “Avengers” came from the lips of Goodluck Jonathan.

”As election day approached, certain stakeholders were mobilized to form a force to standby and ensure total anarchy in the South-South and South-East within 24 hours if the election results were not favourable to Jonathan. It took everyone by surprise to learn that Mr Jonathan had conceded defeat even before the final results were released. The standby force who were to attack specific targets were told to stand down. They were all compensated in US dollars cash.

”The Niger Delta Avengers was born from the failure at the polls and would now be used as an organ to make the Buhari government ungovernable, bring economic hardship and cause hatred for the administration towards failure at the 2019 general elections.

”MEND was aware of this plot through a spy that could not be identified, and the group began its campaign to counter every effort of the NDA and the Biafra agitators to this day. MEND has been a thorn in the flesh because MEND’s successful propaganda has caused the split in our ranks today.

”If former President Jonathan provokes us further with denials of this revelation, we
Daily Trust is reporting that the Nigerian Senate also padded the 2016 budget as revealed by some senators, whose names were not mentioned.
The Nigerian Senate has also been alleged to have padded the budget
“National Assembly is one, the Senate is not left out in the padding of the 2016 budget.
“As you know, the budget was harmonised by the Appropriation committees of both Chambers,” the report quoted the senator as saying.
The report also quoted a lawmaker as alleging that both appropriation committees of the House of Reps and the Senate connived to insert projects as line items in the budget.
According to the report, the lawmaker said: “Every budget item has to be agreed upon by the two chambers. All the things buried by the House leaders were also buried by the Senate.
“So, they both dug the same holes for those things to be buried in.
“As a matter of fact, the two appropriation committees worked together throughout the budget period before they reported back to the respective chambers for approval.
“Invariably what you have in the House is what you have in the Senate, but that of the Senate may even be worse.
“A minister told me that … they inserted an intervention project of N6 billion in his ministry, but when he told them one of the agencies under his ministry had a similar project, they opened up and said the project was meant for the them.
“You can remember what Ogbeh said after the budget defence. He said he saw some strange insertions in his ministry’s budget. That was done in connivance with the two appropriation committees,” the lawmaker said.
The Senate leader, Ali Ndume, in reaction, denied having knowledge of budget padding.
He said: “There is nothing like budget padding and now we don’t have budget, what we have now is Appropriation Act. The 2016 budget is now a law.
“Section 81 of the 1999 Constitution empowers the National Assembly to process the budget by adding, subtracting or even removing projects. So, the budget is now a law, can you say the Law has been padded?”
Ndume said the media blew the issue out of proportion.
Ndume as well as Dogara, who recently visited President Muhammadu Buhari, had earlier said there was nothing like padding of the budget. But Jibrin insists that the 2016 budget was padded by about N40 billion by Dogara and a few principal officers.
Jibrin also revealed a lot of other allegations including that the speaker often went home with huge unaccounted sums of money monthly.
Meanwhile, the presidency has said it is yet to act on the allegations against Dogara because the issues raised by Jibrin had not been referred to it.

The Guaranty trust bank Contact center is not without it challenges in terms of working condition and the remuneration from inception just like every other organisation where contract staff make up the bulk on their work force.

Who can blame these business owners since the country’s leadership, both the executive and the legislative arm do not care about her citizens hence business owners exploit the situation, pay you peanut while they ride you like slaves. The shameless leaders even parade statistics of inhuman jobs endured by countless Nigerians who helplessly hope someone would care enough to speak for them one day.

But when those managing the Guaranty Trust bank contact center (Bolaji Lawal (Group head) Ajibike Ijoma (Manager) and Omolade Abogunrin (Assistant Manager) and their foot soldiers) think its their right to treat family men and women who had humbled themselves in the face of economic reality with such impunity, then someone needs to stop them.
The introduction of the Indians into GTB management system had made me realise the definition of slavery Mentality. Yes, they are taking advantage of the current economic crisis to turn the contract staffs into glorified maids in ties and gown who you chained with rules, but please, trample on us with respect. It is all we ask for, give us the respect we deserve as human, even house maids deserve a level of respect.

You changed our working condition four times within the last 12 month without notice and we have not complained.

Our office space was relocated from Opebi to Lekki and promised us a staff bus. You provided four 14 sitter bus to cater for over 200 staffs at the time and withdraw two buses claiming the drivers resign. Leaving over 240 people to fight for a sit in two 14 sitter bus and Ajibike do not fail to remind us everyday that the bus is a privilege which can be withdrawn at any time. We never complained.

You made us work nine and half hours shift for a standard 6 hours shift job and made to close at 8:30pm even though we are under paid and we still have to struggle to get a bus to our various destinations which become increasingly difficult at night along the lekki epe axis, yet we did not complain.

We are made to work extra one hour if we are 10minutes late and have pre-informed our supervisor, And if we are unable to reach our supervisor to pre-informed them of running late, we are handed extra two hours extra even if we are only 10min late. Hence people run to the office In the rain, drenched from head to toe and would still have to endure the effect of the air condition on their wet body. Meanwhile yourself and your team leads (Gtbank staffs) could come to work later and be welcomed with smiles even though you have your private vehicle.

You control our health in spite of the inhumane working condition you have subjected us to. We can only call in sick for a single day without a doctor’s report if not you will pay back your sick days, get a memo (query) and have your salary deducted.

You are asking people without Health Insurance from their employers to present a Doctors report for every form of sickness. Goddess Ajibike sent a committed and highly skilled agent packing for being ill even though she produced her doctor’s report? She claims she (the Agent) falls ill too often, I remember we are simply contingency staff and we could be disposed of faster than lawma pick up your trash.
The latest of these barbaric acts is Ajibike dishing out extra 30mins and 40mins respectively to the entire inbound agent at will for no just cause, other than the fact that no one could challenge her or stop her. She claims she does it because we have drop calls but that is a lie. The first few times she did, we receive statistical data from the external consultant at the contact center showing call data. The reports show that over 100% of projected call inflow was picked while drop calls were from the excess call above call traffic projection. she makes us work extra hour to clean up her mess which she created by under projecting the call traffic.

We at the contact center are not asking for too much all we are saying is TREAT US WITH RESPECT. You are not better than us, you are only privileged. And all your brag that you could never need any of us outside the contact center is not true, do you know how I know this? Because you are not God, you are just human, nothing more.

This contact agents handles the customers most sensitive information, we have access to every vital details of customers, over the years we have proven our loyalty and honesty. Treating us like a slave is like exposing your customers fund to a very high risk. Sir Segun Agbaje (CEO) needs to act fast before it become a story that touch.

I miss two people in GTBank, late Tayo the former CEO and Uwem the former contactcenter manager. Please do not destroy their legacy

Best regard.

A dog on Sunday saved a family in Otuasega Community, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa from cobra attack.

Mrs Catherine Isiki, who spoke in an interview on Tuesday in Yenagoa, described the attack as a “mystery to the family.”

Isiki said that the cobra `invaded’ their home at about 1 a.m. on Sunday

“ I woke up as a result of alarm raised by my grand-daughter who was the first person to see the snake.

“I am alive today because of a dog that saved me and my family; neighbours could not kill the cobra due its size.

“Some of our neighbours could not even come near our compound due to fear; the Mastiff (dog) was awakened by the noise.

“It was the dog that went straight to the room where the snake was and began to fight the cobra until it killed it.

“I do not know how the snake managed to gain entry to our house because everywhere is tiled.

“In fact, it would have been a tragic story if we did not have the dog as a pet in the house; yes, the dog finally killed the snake, but it was God’s intervention,” she said.

Isiki appreciated God for sparing her family and encouraged people to keep dogs as pets.

“Dogs can save you from any untold danger, just as my entire family was saved because I have a pet dog in my house,” Isiki said.

The purported ill-treatment meted out to sacked officials of Diamond bank Plc has been exposed by the affected people in a press briefing granted to DailyTrust.

Over 400 members of staff were summarily relieved of their duties of recent by the bank during a ‘rightsizing’ exercise with redundancy and other factors named on paper as the reason behind the action. The victims are currently advocating for their severance packages which is an entitlement backed by business law for disengaged workers.

The workers who spoke to newsmen in Kaduna at the weekend said the disengagement terms by Diamond Bank should not be different from that of the other banks which adequately settled all the terminated staff their severance pay and other entitlements in line with labour laws of disengaging workers on the basis of redundancy or anything related.
In addition to the non-payment, the workers lamented, Diamond Bank is also trying to make them unemployable by claiming that their disengagement is due their non performance, but which in reality is not true as many of them have good/excellent performance rating in their appraisals.

The spokesman of the group who preferred anonymity said they will not allow the bank to get away with their action.

"Diamond Bank is not the only bank that sacked its staff recently, but obviously, it is the only bank that is refusing to pay its former workers their severance pay after terminating their appointments unannounced.

“And to further strengthen their refusal to pay, the bank is telling the public that we were sack due to our non-performance. This is not only a malicious lie but it is wicked because by saying that, they are trying to render us unemployable.

“But on the contrary, many of us who were affected, numbering over 400, have good/excellent performance rating during previous appraisals including the last one done by the bank. The records are all there.

"So, Diamond Bank should stop peddling falsehood and own up their responsibilities. If they are sacking because of economic reasons, they should say so and adequately settle anyone they terminate his or her appointment. That was what other banks did.

“However, we will engage all means within the law to ensure that the bank does not get away with this illegality, because over 400 people are not a small number.

“We have been consulting widely across the country on the matter to know the precise action to take and we are in Kaduna to consult with various human right activists/lawyers, labour leaders and other notable figures who will help to advance our case," the spokesman said.

The spokesman added that the bank has already thrown all their accounts into debit, suspended their visa cards as well as threatening them to immediately pay up any money owed it as a result of the upfront allowances paid them in January/February and that it (the bank) shall begin to apply the staff rate of 4% interest for 90 days, after which it shall begin to attract interest at Monetary Policy Rate.

A woman, 30 year old Joylene Cunningham, has been jailed for two and a half years for slashing her now former boyfriend’s face with a blade, from his mouth to his ear after she caught him kissing and making out with another woman. After the cut, her boyfriend, Sean Harman needed 18 stitches for it to be repaired.

Cunningham told York Crown Court that the slash was caused from a ring or a glass her boyfriend was holding – but when her ring was examined by Recorder of York, Judge Paul Batty QC, it was found to be blunt.
The Judge in charge of her case, Judge Batty told her:

“The wound had been a deep laceration in places, running virtually from Mr Harman’s mouth to his ear and causing a permanent scar.”
Cunningham said that when she saw him with another girl they were kissing and cuddling, adding that :

“I felt pretty upset – I just stormed over and hit him.”
She admitted to have punched him but denied having a blade in her hand, and said the wound must have been caused by a ring on her finger, or the glass he was holding.

Her former boyfriend, Mr Harman in a way defended Cunningham, saying that he had provoked her during the incident which occurred in York one evening in June 2015.
He told the court that he had wrongly believed she had been the one having an affair so decided to make her jealous by being with someone else. He said:

“I was Disgust*ng – I was horrible. I was awful. “I was angry with her – I thought she had been cheat*ng on me in my own bed. I wanted revenge on her. I wanted her to be sent down.”
He said he had been violent towards Cunningham previously. He also defended Cunningham by echoing what she said about the ring. He said she had hit him with her fist but the cut must have been caused by a ring on her finger or a glass he was holding.
But Judge Batty who examined the ring said it was not sharp and he did not believe the pair’s claims.

Judge Batty said that in sentencing he gave Cunningham credit for a guilty plea to wounding with intent at an earlier hearing.

The executive secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Uja Tor Uja, has appealed to the federal government to strengthen and upgrade local airlines to international best standards, so as to make them compete globally with other airlines.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the “conference of pilgrimage and managers of Nigeria’’, a conference organized by NCPC to redefine the mode of pilgrimage in the country, Uja stated this effort will make local airlines a global product to reckon with and give them enhance leverage to compete with other international airlines.
Uja said he is optimistic that if the federal government look into the aviation sector and strengthen it, and build up the capacity of the local airlines, it will help the operation of activities from Nigeria.
According to him, “We have massive number of people that travel on pilgrimages annually. Hence, if adequately empowered Nigeria airline operators will be able to compete and not left out in the business.

“We want to call on indigenous airline operator to lift up their game and operate flight for us to Jerusalem, because it will also help to strengthen Nigeria economy in areas of direct flight.”
He however decried that most foreign airlines operating in Nigeria have to go to their home country before proceeding to Nigeria pilgrims destination. Adding that if there’s direct flight there will not be problem of stopover which causes delay in flight movement.
“We have also dialogued with international community to ensure that obtaining visa for pilgrimage will be easy. We have relationship with Israel and other countries offering pilgrim services. Hence pilgrims that are travelling will get to know a month ahead of his trip,’’ Uja stated.
He also affirmed that pilgrimage will not be only interesting but attractive in some time to come if adequate preparations are made.
Uja also invite all Christians in Nigeria to participate in pilgrimage to Israel at least once in a lifetime.
